How much gravel do you need for your driveway?

by Mud D. Monkey

Not sure how much gravel you need for your driveway?

This will give you a good rough estimate and it’s so easy even a human can do it : )

Measure the length and width of the area to be covered. Multiply them to get the square footage.

If you have more than one section, calculate each section then add up the section totals.

Divide your grand total by 80. This will give you the number of tons you need to cover the area at a depth of about 1.5 inches.

Example:

My friend, Boingo the Orangutan, has a driveway that’s 100 feet long and 12 feet wide. There is a 60 x 60 turnaround at one end.

Boingo multiplies 100 x 12 = 1200 sq. feet.

And 60 x 60 = 360 sq. feet.

He pauses briefly to eat some termites (I recommend you skip that step) then Boingo adds 1200 + 360 which equals 1,560 sq. feet.

Dividing 1,560 by 80 he gets 19.5. So he needs about 19.5 tons of gravel.

He then calls Kelly at Mud Monkeys: 615-651-9275 to place the order.
